Set across a spacious 218m² area, the store includes dedicated spaces for each of the our product categories and design details that nod to an impressive legacy of Australian craftsmanship. The pinnacle of the store is a central, curved boot wall - inspired by the heel of a boot - that presents our signature offering of handcrafted leather boots. The space is complete with bespoke showcase seating that forms a relaxed environment in which to get expertly measured and fitted for a pair of RMs.
It's a fitting tribute to the brand’s legacy, explains Chief Marketing Officer Chris Willingham.
“It’s an invitation into our world – one that we hope will inspire both new customers and seasoned collectors.”
Elsewhere, ambient lighting, an earthy colour palette and homely, wardrobe-style fixtures contribute to a relaxed feeling of ease. Custom-made display units provide a thoughtful home for our diverse product offering and a purpose-designed mobile trunk makes space for travelling activations, care demonstrations and leather craft tutorials from visiting craftspeople.
Each aspect of the store’s build and outfit has been considered through the lens of quality craftsmanship, in line with our commitment to local manufacturing. The impact of the store will be felt from first sight of its entrance, with a spectacular 15-metre-wide digital screen showcasing a signature series of landscape video content, created by local videographers Nathan Dyer, Ben Broady and Tom Iffla. Once inside the store, you’ll be welcomed by locally produced furniture and joinery, premium wool carpeting from New Zealand and textural wall detailing featuring bricks by Krause, a long-serving family-operated brickmakers hailing from Victoria.
Furniture has been supplied by conscious Melbourne-based business Made By Morgen, a brand closely aligned with our enduring values of sustainability and timeless design. These design contributions to the space include pieces crafted from Hydrowood, an extremely sustainable timber material dredged from a drowned forest in Tasmania. The story of this material, rediscovered after 25 years in the depths of Pieman Lake on Tasmania’s west coast, is further confirmation of our belief in the power of Australian ingenuity and craftsmanship.
Paul Giannangeli, Head of Brand Environment, adds,
We’re so proud to be working with some of the country’s leading artisans on innovative furniture, fixtures and design details for our first Western Australian flagship store, and continuing his legacy.”’
The opening of the St Georges Terrace location is the first in a new series of stores to open over the coming year, including a Claremont relocation, Rundle Place, Rockhampton and George St, Sydney. Though each space has been designed with a distinct, location-specific personality, signature design cues from the WA flagship will be present throughout.
“St Georges Terrace marks the start of an exciting year for our retail teams,” comments Kyle Grimshaw, Head of Stores. “With a line-up of world-class stores opening their doors in the coming months, we look forward to welcoming a new intake of amazing team members into the R.M.Williams family and getting even more customers expertly fitted for their next pair of RMs.”
